Yellow's vibrant, happy tones pair well with other bright colors. For balance, try pairing mustard yellow with deep cerulean and coral. These updated shades of primary colors naturally work well together to create an energizing effect.

Yellow is one of many colors featured in this boho-style living room. The yellow walls host a gallery of colorful art, and a deep blue sofa holds plenty of patterned pillows. Layered rugs soften the space, while yellow living room accessories, including fresh flowers, a lampshade, and throw pillows, incorporate the sunny color scheme throughout.

This traditional-style living room wows with scarlet accents that stand out among creamy yellow walls and a yellow sofa. Upholstered chairs feature rich patterns that tie the warm red and yellow scheme together. The yellow tones throughout the space complement the warm ivory fireplace surround.

Make yellow a dominant color with this yellow living room idea: Paint the trim and beams in the happy hue. Then use fabrics on furniture and pillows or an area rug to pick up the color around the room. This is one way to brighten a space without making the color too overwhelming.

Lemon-Yellow Living Room Accents

This midcentury modern living room revolves around bold, lemon-yellow wall decor. Browns and blues dominate the space, but a yellow upholstered accent chair brings the scheme together. Shades of yellow also appear on the mantel in artwork and on coffee table accessories.

This yellow living room features a soft, buttery yellow accompanied by a relaxing powder blue. Dark wood furniture grounds the light color scheme, while pops of white keep it light and fresh. This look fits perfectly with traditional home decor.

Bold Yellow Sofa

Paint isn't the only way to get the benefits of yellow in a living room. Here, a bold yellow striped sofa adds a punch of color to the room. It pairs with navy blue accents in the stripes, pillows, and window treatments to achieve balance. The somewhat subdued patterns leave plenty of attention for the colorful glassware collection on the other side of the room.

Elegant Yellow Living Room

Yellow can take on an elegant vibe when the tone is just a step or two up from white. In this airy space, abundant natural light and high ceilings are the stars. Painted a shade of butter yellow, the walls serve as a supporting character, as do the subtle yellow accents.

This country French-inspired sitting room brings in subtle yellow tones with a nailhead sofa and yellow-and-brown patterned curtains. Off-white walls and armchairs blend away in the space, and dark accents ground the light hues. Small gold accents give this design a vintage vibe while also incorporating yellow tones around the room.

Traditional Gold Living Room

This traditional living room incorporates several shades of yellow in many patterns and textures. A soft yellow rug gives the space a color foundation. A cream accent chair adds light yellow to the space, while mustard and olive curtains add depth to the scheme. An amber cabinet adds even more variety.

Yellow as a Neutral

This yellow living room walks the line between yellow and tan well, creating a neutral foundation to build upon. The light chaise and yellow lamps play up the gold accents throughout the space. White woodwork contrasts dark wood floors to strike the perfect balance.

Subtle Yellow Decor

Bring yellow living room decor into your home without letting it take over. This space marries dark wood furnishings with light yellow textiles for a balanced and subtle look. Muted patterns and colors carry throughout the space thanks to accessories like yellow wall art and coffee table accents.

Buttercream Yellow Walls

Light buttercream yellow unites this large living room. It starts on the walls and echoes in the gingham curtains and the striped rug. The lighter yellow backdrop allows yellow wall decor and a lively animal print on the ottoman to take center stage. Adding black accents will give a yellow room more zing. Just be careful not to add so much black that you mimic the decorating equivalent of a bumblebee.

Mod Mustard Yellow Living Room

In a mostly neutral living room, a mustard yellow couch steals the show. Gold accents, like the coffee table and frames on the walls, mimic the yellow tones of the sofa. By keeping the walls, floor, and light fixtures neutral, this space makes yellow the star without being overwhelming.

Golden Yellow Living Room

Golden yellow walls lend this living room a sunny disposition. To make the extra-tall room feel less imposing, a band of white trim breaks up the yellow walls and introduces a subtle accent. Another primary color, red, helps the chairs make a bold statement, while the browns in the sofa and window treatments anchor the room's scheme.

Retro Living Room Decor

This bright living room brings a 1960s color scheme into the modern era. A tufted butterscotch sofa brings out the yellow tones in the chevron window treatments. Gray and yellow striped chairs bring neutral tones to the deep tones of the rest of the decor.

Cheerful Yellow Paint Colors

For an outdoors-inspired space, start with a sunny yellow wall color. Incorporate sky blue and grass green accents to complete the yellow color scheme. Doses of white, shown here in trimwork and ceramic accents, lend a crisp edge to the natural look.

Gray and Yellow Living Room

This gray and yellow living room features bold pattern and texture. A yellow buffalo check sofa updates vintage style, while striped yellow window treatments soften a busy gray and white wallpaper pattern. A gold chandelier and side table stick with the traditional look, while electric blue glass accents add modern contrast.

Artwork on Yellow Walls

Art galleries know a neutral backdrop lets the artwork shine. This room shows that a neutral background doesn't have to be white. A warm yellow wall color emphasizes the hues in this graphic, unframed piece. Lighter shades in subtle yellow-and-white patterns add interest to the white furniture without detracting from the bold painting.

This mostly neutral living room marries mellowed yellow with gray and wood tones to create a warm and inviting space. Tall curtains add drama and lead the eye up to the natural wood beams. Gray and yellow wall art carries the color of the armchairs around the space.

Decorating with Yellow Walls

Wondering how to decorate a room with yellow walls? Make the floor match, and let the furniture bring something new to the space. Here, a yellow floor rug blends with yellow walls to create a blank canvas for furnishings. A blue sofa and red-and-white accent fabrics bring in all three primary colors without looking elementary.

Yellow Accent Wall

Bright yellow will make visitors come to a full stop when you use it as a bold accent wall. Here, it's incorporated with generous doses of white (on other walls, the ceiling, the sofa, artwork, and tables) to mitigate the drama. Graphic black accents weave into the scheme to emphasize the geometry of this modern space.

How to Calculate the Best Table Size for Your Dining Room

    ErikaWittlieb/CC0/Pixabay

Congratulations on your decision to get a new dining room table. Choosing a new style of table can change the whole vibe in your dining area. It's important to choose a table that fits the size of your room so there's room for everyone to walk around. Taking the time to measure the size of your dining room and comparing your open floor space to standard table sizes can help you choose a piece of furniture that's a good fit for your home.

Determine the Size of Your Dining Area

Hook the end of a tape measure to something solid against the wall, like the door trim, or have a helper hold the end against the wall. Measure all the way across the room to the opposite wall. Make a note of this size, and then repeat the measuring process on the other two walls in the room. Multiply the two numbers together to determine the size of the room in square feet. If you're choosing a dining table for a room in a house with an open floor plan, measure to the edge of the area where you want the dining area to end.

    Draw the Room

Sketch the room on a sheet of grid paper or enter the dimensions in a 3D room layout planning tool. While a larger open space around the table gives a room a casual, airy feeling, allow a minimum of three feet around the perimeter of the room for walking space. The remaining space in the center of the room is the maximum to allow for a dining table. It's easier to fit a small table into a large room than it is to crowd an oversized table into a tiny room. If you have extra floor space available after placing your dining table, you can adjust the way it's positioned in the room to enhance the flow of foot traffic and increase visual appeal.

Consider Decor Elements Around the Room's Outer Edge

Some pieces of furniture are big enough they're hard to move, making them almost a permanent part of your floor plan. If there are other large furnishings around the outer edge of the room, such as a hutch or curio cabinet, be sure to include the dimensions of those items in your sketch and in your calculations.

The Role of Table Top Shapes in Choosing Table Size

This is a tip you may see at play if you look closely at tabletops for restaurants. This is because restaurant tables are often packed in snugly to provide seating for as many patrons as possible. When space is at a premium — for example if you have a small dining area and can't arrange it to leave floor space around the table — consider a round or oval table. The rounded edges of the tabletop can allow for foot traffic.

Consider a Table That Has a Leaf

Choosing a table that has a leaf is one easy way to accommodate an occasional large group while enjoying the coziness of a small table. Just add the leaf when guests are coming over and remove it when there's a smaller group present. Floor space may be tied up with the leaf is installed, but it's also freed up when you restore the table to its smaller leaf-free size.

    Living Room Decorating Ideas

The living room is one of the most important areas in your house for a great hosting experience. It's likely you and your guests will spend countless hours in this room, discussing and entertaining.

Decorating your living room properly will deliver deeply satisfying living for your leisure time. To get there, however, you must pay attention to all of the following areas:

    1. the colors that you select

    2. material and quality of seats and furniture

    3. wall decorations and art

    4. lighting and light fixtures

Below we show you some great ideas for decorating your living room.

The Best Colors for Your Living Room

One area that will have a disproportionate impact on the mood of your living room is the color you choose for the walls. While you can install wallpaper to change the look of certain walls, there are areas that wallpaper cannot cover. Getting the wall color right, therefore, gives you the best shot at creating a remarkable effect.

Some of the best color palettes for living rooms include:

    1. White - White walls add a touch of class. They are the perfect backdrop for decorating with upscale furniture.

    2. Turquoise - This color is great for creating an informal but refined feel. Your kids and family will love the refreshing mood this color creates.

    3. Cream - Striking a balance between formal and informal, cream-colored walls create a quiet, soothing effect.

    Furniture Choices

With your wall color selection made, you should select furniture that pairs well with the colors you've already chosen. For example, combining white couches with white walls will create resonance in your room design.

Make sure to provide ample seating to avoid crowding. Add multiple sofas, easy chairs and other seats that can accommodate a complete roomful of people, depending on the size of the room.

Furniture like TV stands and tables should generally blend in with the colors of the room and ceiling. There are some natural materials, however, that can work regardless of the colors on the walls. For example, wooden table surfaces look good whether your walls are white, blue or another color.

    Lighting Ideas

You can greatly improve the aesthetics of a living room with bright lighting and impressive light fixtures.

To start, you can consider a beautiful chandelier in the center to provide light around the whole room. This central masterpiece ensures adequate lighting throughout the living room while adding an air of elegance.

You can then add to the light sources in the living room with individual lights on tables and around the walls in areas where people will not knock them down.

    Carpeting

Consider adding carpeting to your living room to create a comfortable walking area. Carpeting lets you and your guests go barefoot if you choose. The living room almost demands this since you will want to take off your shoes and kick back on occasion. Warm plush carpets provide a good, comfortable surface for this. There are many choices when it comes to carpet size.

If your living room is very large, you can opt for wall-to-wall carpeting. On the other hand, if it's smaller, you can add just an area rug in the place where you will sit. For example, you can have a rug around the sitting and TV area where your kids will play.

The advantage of area rugs over wall to wall carpeting is, mainly, lower costs and ease of replacement. You can completely change the area rug and create a new aesthetic in a fraction of the time it would take to begin installing new wall-to-wall carpeting.

Art Ideas for Your Living Room

Many homeowners like to have some wall art in their living room. If your living room is spacious, it can accommodate a good-sized piece of art mounted alongside one wall. In some instances, you can consider multiple art pieces. Invariably, tasteful art adds to the sophistication of a living room. It adds an interesting item that sparks many conversations from impressed guests.

Selecting art is an opportunity to express your unique personality. If you are fairly conservative, you can select some classical type pieces that portray a quiet life. If you are more adventurous, you can experiment with a post-modern impressionist piece that others might consider risky. It's your space, and so feel free to decorate it to express who you are.

There are many wonderful things about getting older, but going through the aging process also means you might start experiencing bodily fatigue, achy muscles and joint pain more often than you used to. Because of this, you might have difficulty moving and exercising. But you don't have to let that slow you down. It's vital for older adults to get regular physical activity — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity — but what if you want to gently ease into more movement without exacerbating aches and pains?

One way to get started is to practice chair yoga. Chair yoga exercises are a perfect way for you to stretch and get moving, all while you're safely seated in a chair — no need to get down onto the floor. This type of yoga can help loosen your muscles, improve circulation, build strength and even relieve stress. Even better? You can do it any time from the comfort of your own home.

Chair yoga, or sitting yoga, for seniors is a modified version of traditional hatha yoga to help relieve body aches and stay healthy in a safe and accessible way. Hatha yoga is a form of this type of exercise that's more gentle and more slowly paced with a focus on stretching and breathing. It's ideal for anyone who lives with pain that could make more complex yoga poses difficult, such as chronic pain, osteoporosis and multiple sclerosis. Additionally, chair yoga can also be ideal for people who spend long hours sitting in a chair.

Many seniors find their lives become sedentary with each passing year because movement may become more tiring, uncomfortable or painful. Practicing chair yoga regularly can provide a way to prevent or relieve those issues. It's a low-impact way to get the blood in your body flowing and stretch your muscles.

In terms of equipment, all you need for chair yoga is a stable, armless chair. Make sure the chair is resting on a flat, stable surface and that you're wearing comfortable clothes that allow for a generous range of motion. Chair yoga can also be ideal if you're a wheelchair user.

Benefits of Chair Yoga for Seniors

Getting regular exercise can add years to your life and slow the aging process. However, many types of exercise can become more difficult to perform with age. High-impact exercises like weightlifting, running and other types of intense cardio can be particularly hard on your joints and muscles. Chair yoga provides a way to get your body moving without stressing your joints with hard impacts like running does. Practicing chair yoga for 20-30 minutes per session several times a week can provide significant health benefits.

First of all, it can help manage and reduce pain. One recent study from the Journal of American Geriatrics Society found that chair yoga effectively helped relieve pain associated with osteoarthritis. Furthermore, chair yoga involves stretching the neck, upper back, lower back, shoulders, arms, legs, knees and ankles without much impact on the joints. This not only reduces stiffness, tension and pain, but it can also help to improve mobility in the long run.

Another potential benefit is improved flexibility, which can make it easier to perform regular movements as you go about your everyday routine. Being flexible also can improve muscle coordination and posture and lower the risk of future muscle soreness and injuries. Chair yoga helps improve your strength and balance as well, meaning falls become a lot less likely. Having a strong body also increases your ability to withstand injury.

Chair yoga even has benefits for your mental wellbeing. As with traditional yoga, chair yoga involves a lot of deep breathing, which can help clear your mind similarly to meditation. This often results in reduced stress, a better mood, less anxiety and a calmer state of mind.

Try These Great Chair Yoga Routines

There's no need to leave your home, join a gym or go to chair yoga classes at a fitness studio — plenty of outstanding chair yoga routines are available online. Some are written out with pictures, while others are instructional video workouts you can follow along with.

If you're unsure about the idea of following along with a chair yoga video, you can simply make your own routine consisting of exercises sitting in a chair. Here are some great options for all skill levels:

The Forward Bend Pose involves bending over so your chest is resting on your thighs and your hands are reaching towards the floor. If you can, place your palms fully on the floor. To get the most out of this stretch, hold for 30 seconds or more, taking slow, long, deep breaths.

The Chair Pigeon Pose is another great chair yoga stretch. Sitting up straight with your knees aligned above your ankles, bring your left ankle to your right thigh. If you can, try bending forward as low as possible to make the stretch more intense. Hold here for several deep breaths before doing the same pose with the opposite leg.

For the Chair Spinal Twist, begin by sitting sideways on your chair facing right. Twist your torso to the right while grabbing the back of the chair with both hands to anchor yourself in that position. Stay here for several deep breaths. Then, switch to the left side.

The simple Overhead Stretch starts with you sitting up straight in your chair, facing forward with your arms relaxed and hanging by your sides. As you take a deep breath in, slowly begin to raise your arms up towards the ceiling. Once they're fully extended upward, take a moment to engage your core and ensure your back is straight. Hold this position for a few seconds. Let out a long exhale while slowly lowering your arms back down. Repeat this a few more times.

You might find it easier and more convenient to follow an exercise video routine that provides instructions and demonstrates the different positions for you. There are plenty of free chair yoga classes and routines for seniors to choose from. Here are some that come highly recommended:

    • Chair Yoga for Seniors With Adriene: Adriene is a master of making yoga fun and easy for everyone. In this 17-minute chair yoga video, she guides you through the moves slowly and clearly so that it's easy to follow along and enjoy learning the basics.
    • Gentle Chair Yoga With Mary Beth Kealy: This gentle, stimulating 41-minute chair yoga practice is great if you want to spend a little bit of extra time stretching. The background of the video incorporates soothing, meditative music to make the experience especially relaxing.
    • Chair Yoga for Lower Back Pain With Cindy: Cindy walks you through 18 minutes of sitting yoga for seniors. The stretches are specifically designed to ease lower back pain while helping you build strength at the same time.

More than 40 years after opening the first Home Depot location, this concept continues to benefit home improvement shoppers and investors. Today, with One Home Depot, the company leverages an omnichannel strategy that combines in-store and online presence to give shoppers a seamless buying experience.

One Home Depot shows that the company continues to do what it must to remain competitive. Still, while Home Depot stock will probably remain appealing to long-term investors, the company's long-term growth path remains uncertain.

On the surface, Home Depot is well-positioned for prosperity. It continues to register growth amid an ongoing competitive battle with archrival Lowe's and, to a lesser extent, companies such as Tractor Supply, McCoy's Building Supply, and numerous other retailers.

However, its stock, if anything, appears somewhat overvalued. It trades at just over 24 times forward earnings. However, with predicted earnings growth of 10.5% for this year set to give way to 5.2% in the next fiscal year, this could leave Home Depot unable to support its current valuation.

Still, despite slower growth, the stock should continue to appeal to long-term and conservative investors, if only for its dividend. Its current annual payout of $6 per share yields approximately 2.2%. This gives income-oriented investors a payout above the current 1.8% average for the S&P 500. Also, the dividend payout ratio, or the percentage of net income paid in dividends, now stands at around 52%. At this rate, the company can likely afford to continue the payout hikes.

Furthermore, conditions seem to play in Home Depot's favor for now. A combination of lockdowns, joblessness, and stimulus checks has stoked an increased interest in home improvement. In the most recent quarter, sales increased by more than 23% from year-ago levels. Diluted earnings per share rose by nearly 27%.

    Where is Home Depot going?

Analysts expect that a decline in COVID-19 cases will reduce interest in home improvement. This will mean the stellar second-quarter numbers will probably not last. Moreover, store counts have changed little over the last few years. The current store count of 2,291 is only 17 stores more than in fiscal 2015.

These stores counts also imply that both the U.S. and Canada have come close to reaching saturation points. Furthermore, though the company announced it would build four additional stores in Mexico, market expansion may only come slowly, even in this less-saturated market.

This does not mean the company will stop growing completely. Home Depot has geared itself more toward e-commerce and the contractor market. To this end, Home Depot recently announced it would open three new distribution centers in the Atlanta area alone.

Still, such moves do not negate the need for Home Depot to find additional areas where it can expand. If the company cannot find a way to expand beyond North America, predictions of much slower growth after the current fiscal year may prove true.

Home Depot should continue to benefit from the need for homeowners to repair and improve their dwellings. Moreover, the dividend remains safe and should stay on track for subsequent increases. Nonetheless, without an obvious avenue for expansion, investors in this retail stock may have to prepare themselves for slower growth going forward.
